Teeth whitening at home is a method chosen by many people to improve the color of their teeth in an economical and convenient way. However, it must be done correctly and there are important notes to ensure safety and effectiveness.

1. How to whiten teeth and freshen breath at home

1.1. How to whiten teeth at home effectively with salt

Salt has natural cleansing and disinfecting properties. To use:

  • Mix a little salt with warm water to form a paste.
  • Brush your teeth gently with this mixture for 1-2 minutes.
  • Rinse mouth thoroughly with clean water

Note: Only do this 1-2 times/week to avoid wearing down tooth enamel.

1.2. Using coconut oil

Coconut oil has antibacterial and teeth cleaning effects:

  • Rinse your mouth with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil for 15-20 minutes
  • Spit out and rinse your mouth with warm water.

  • Rinse mouth thoroughly with clean water

However, caution is advised as areca nut can stain teeth if used regularly.

2. Notes when whitening teeth at home

  • Do not overuse natural whitening methods, generally only do them 1-2 times/week.
  • Avoid using strong acidic substances such as lemon and vinegar to whiten teeth.
  • If you experience tooth sensitivity, stop immediately and consult your dentist.
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using at-home bleaching methods.
  • If you have dental problems such as tooth decay or gingivitis, they should be treated before bleaching.

3. How to prevent tooth stains at home

3.1. Eat lots of fruits with high water content

Water-rich fruits like apples, pears, and watermelon are not only good for your health, but also help clean your teeth naturally and stimulate saliva production, which helps protect your teeth from stains.

3.2. Change your diet

  • Limit foods and drinks that stain teeth such as coffee, black tea, and red wine.
  • Increase foods rich in calcium and vitamin D to strengthen tooth enamel.
  • Drink plenty of water to help wash away substances that stain teeth.

3.3. Maintain oral hygiene

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day, for 2 minutes each time.
  • Use dental floss or toothpicks daily to remove plaque between teeth.
  • Gargle with salt water.
